Following the 5 steps below will help you tackle your dry eyes.
1. Heat
Do this daily. Apply a heat pad over closed lids for 10 minutes (try not to fall asleep)
2. Massage
Once your eyelids are nice and work. Massage your eyelids using either your fingers in a pinching motion or using a cotton tip in a stroking motion. Do this for 30 second per eye lid.
3. Hygiene
The above step can cause blocked secretions to be released near the eye and so good hygiene is important. Use a foam or pad to "scrub" the base of your eyelashes and lid margins. Do this for 30 seconds per eye lid.
4. Lubricate
It is important to provide your eyes with lubrication to reduce the friction between your eyelids and your eye surface. Use preservative free eye drops 4x a day. This may sound like a lot but with time and following the above steps you should be able to reduce the amount of drops you need.
5. Supplement
Unless you eat a lot of fish, most people are deficient of omega 3 in their diet. Omega 3 help to produce runnier meibum and acts as an anti-inflammatory when used for a time. You may need up to 2g a day depending on your dry eye problem.
Finally, have your eyes examined by an eye care professional who knows about dry eye. There can be certain underlying conditions that could be contributing to your symptoms.
